Saline County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol & Rescue Squad

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

The Saline County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol & Rescue Squad is an all-volunteer organization, which dates back to 1952. Originally The Sheriff’s Posse, our organization has now become the Search and & Rescue Unit for Saline County and surrounding areas. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and our annual operating budget, expenses, maintenance and resources are donations as we receive no regular funding from the Sheriff’s Office or Saline County. Vehicles and equipment are nearing end of life and in need of upgrade.

Mission

An organization of dedicated volunteers who are committed to be on the cutting edge of the best Search, Rescue and Recovery response tactics and resources possible, “That others may live”.

Profile

We currently have 21 volunteer members of various backgrounds and disciplines from working with large animals, fire/emergency medical services, scuba diving/ice rescue, confined space, high and low angle rope rescue all in addition to several being sworn deputy sheriffs. With the use of watercraft, ATVs, horses, 3- SAR K9’s and other associated equipment the Mounted Patrol and Rescue Squad are used to locate missing persons as well as fugitives and will assist in natural disaster events. We are the only organization in the local response framework capable of searching below water surface and team with two other agencies for all swiftwater/ice rescues. Additionally, we are the primary responder for all livestock trailer accidents and conduct extrication and safe removal of the animals.
